Renaming Uranus
For those of you who are wondering, this is not my intent at change the naming convention of a planet. This is your typical - here's my ramblings, life events, opinions about current events, music and movie revelations, very average BLOG. Apologies to anyone who is disappointed, but don't be moving the mouse over to that Google toolbar search box just yet.
Here are some facts according to Wikipedia:
- Uranus has 27 moons.
- Uranus is a Giant Gas
- Uranus was a personfication of heaven in Greek Mythology.
- Uranus has a skewed orientation.
- Uranus' magnetic field is peculiar.
- Behind Uranus is a long corkscrew shaped magnetotail.
These are the facts. It's apprantly the case that Sir William Herschel had named the planet after King George III in 1781. Over time, Uranus just happen to stick throughout the atronomical community in Europe. There's a reason why the United States does not use the metric system. Let's continue that trend and adopt a new name for this glorious ball of gas we call Uranus.
Stay tuned for unrelated posts.
Cheers,
Kenichi
